Classification of Printing Paper Materials
Printing paper is available in a wide variety of types and can be categorized according to its use, performance and characteristics. The following are several common types of printing paper and their characteristics:
- Coated Paper
Coated with a layer of white paste on its surface, coated paper has good elasticity and water resistance, and is mainly used for printing albums, covers, postcards and so on. Its weight ranges from 70g/m² to 250g/m², and it is suitable for printing exquisite product samples and colorful logos.

- Offset Paper
Offset paper has a compact texture, is opaque, has good whiteness, and is highly resistant to water. It has single-sided and double-sided points, the weight from 50g/m² to 180g/m² ranging, mainly used for lithographic (offset) printing presses to print the higher level of color prints, such as pictorials, albums, posters, color printing trademarks and some high-level book cover illustrations. - White Board Paper
White Board Paper is a kind of packaging paper, weight from 220g/m² to 400g/m², mainly used for printing boxes, commodity decorative liner, bookbinding in the lining and diameter of the paper and so on. - Letterpress Paper
Letterpress paper has uniform texture, no linting, slight elasticity, opaque, slightly water-resistant properties, and is suitable for important writings, scientific and technical books, academic journals and other body paper. - Newsprint
Newsprint is mainly used for newspaper and book printing, with light, good elasticity, good ink absorption, opaque and other characteristics. - Embossed Paper
Embossed paper has an inconspicuous pattern on the surface and is used for printing single-color covers. - Dictionary Paper
Dictionary Paper is used for printing dictionaries, thesauruses and other books, and is required to be white and meticulous, folding-resistant and smooth. - Kraft Paper
Kraft Paper is used for wrapping paper, envelopes, paper bags, etc. - Sulfuric Paper
Sulfuric paper, also called tracing paper, has the characteristics of pure paper, high strength, good transparency, no deformation, sunlight resistance, high temperature resistance, anti-aging, etc., transparent, waterproof, oil-proof, but ink adsorption capacity is poor, not easy to dry, the required drying time is more than three times the ordinary coated paper. It is easy to be deformed in water and wrinkled when drying, so it can only be dried naturally. - Light Coated Paper
The color printing effect of light coated paper is almost comparable to that of coated paper. It is sold at a higher price than general printing paper, but much cheaper than coated paper, and is mainly used for the inside pages of magazines and periodicals, flyers, and catalogs. - Matte Paper
Matte Paper is also called matte coated paper, the reflection is not as strong as coated paper, but the printing pattern effect is more delicate, texture, and the corresponding price is more expensive, mainly used for high-grade product albums, or matte magazines. - White Cardboard
White cardboard firm and thick, smooth and tear-resistant, color printing effect does not lose the coated paper, the price is in the middle of the same grams of paper in the hardness, stiffness, thickness are considered very high, overall speaking, cost-effective, mainly used for printing business cards, postcards, invitations, packaging.
